Conflict of Interest
A "conflict of interest" is any situation where:
- Your personal interests, or
- Those of a close friend, family member, business associate, corporation or partnership in which you hold a significant interest, or a person to whom you owe an obligation, could influence your decisions and impair your ability to:
- Act in the Society’s best interests, or
- Represent the Society fairly, impartially and without bias.
Policy
It is ISOPP’s policy for anyone who is in a position to influence decisions made on behalf of the Society to disclose any real or potential conflict(s) of interest between their ISOPP service and their other activities on an annual basis, and to disqualify themselves from voting on any such matter. This includes the Secretariat members and members of Committees, Task Forces and Work Groups that provide advice, guidance and recommendations to the Secretariat.
If a conflict of interest exists, the member must:
- Promptly declare to the President or Chair any conflict of interest and ask that such declaration be recorded in the minutes;
- Excuse him or herself from the portion of the meeting where the matter giving rise to the conflict of interest is being discussed;
- Refrain from all discussion of the matter giving rise to the conflict of interest, at any meeting of the Society, or elsewhere; and
- Refrain from voting on the matter giving rise to the conflict of interest, at any meeting of the Society.
