It is recognized that there is an essential role for the oncology pharmacist in improving patient outcomes for patients receiving immunotherapy with immune checkpoint inhibitors and CAR T-cell therapy, as is outlined in the ISOPP Position Statement on The Role of Oncology Pharmacy Practitioners in Immunotherapy Treatment with Immune Checkpoint Inhibitors for Malignant Conditions (JOPP Apr 5, 2022).
This 4.5 hour program will support oncology pharmacists in developing a clinical understanding of immunotherapy and the essential role that pharmacists play at the forefront of therapy management.
Objectives
- Review and discuss key immunotherapy concepts and the mechanism of action of immune checkpoint inhibitors and CAR T-cell therapy.
- Describe the fundamentals of care with immune checkpoint inhibitors including dosing, adverse effects and management of patients on treatment.
- Describe the fundamentals of care with CAR T-cell therapy including pharmacokinetics, adverse effects and management of patients on treatment.
- Using case studies, discuss the management of patient on immune checkpoint inhibitors and CAR T-cell therapy
