Finally! For the first time in three years, ISOPP members were able to connect in our first in-person Symposium. ISOPP’s XXI International Symposium on Oncology Pharmacy Practice (ISOPP 2023) took place March 2-4, 2023 in the beautiful, historical city of Seville, Spain. This Symposium saw ISOPP collaborating with the Oncologic Pharmacy Working Group (GEDEFO) of the Spanish Society of Hospital Pharmacists (SEFH), to develop a Symposium program that included relevant and engaging topics for oncology pharmacy practitioners from around the world.
Over 350 participants made their way to Seville to learn, reconnect, and celebrate our colleagues. The Symposium program included plenaries that sought to advocate for the development of meaningful solutions to mitigate burnout and to support further understanding of the health disparities that impact oncology patients. ISOPP 2023 served as a platform to showcase innovative research projects that included ambulatory oncology workload tracking, the pharmacist’s role in sexual health in patients with cancer, and pharmacist-led DPYD and UGT1A1 gene testing. Research, indeed, played a starring role in the program with over 80 abstracts accepted for poster presentation with local representation from Spain, along with posters from Brazil, UK, Canada, Belgium, and France.
The ISOPP 2023 program was rounded out with clinical topics in cardio-oncology, breast cancer survivorship, and the pharmacist role in molecular tumor boards. The Fundamentals stream included hazardous drug safety and handling, the use of robotics in chemotherapy manufacturing, and desensitization of chemotherapeutic drugs. Finally, ISOPP Secretariat was able to connect with members by facilitating ISOPP’s first Town Hall. This valuable opportunity to answer questions and connect with members will be considered for future Symposia.
The ISOPP Program Task Force would like to thank GEDFO-SEFH for the very collaborative partnership. We enjoyed the city of Seville, valued the networking opportunities, and appreciated the glimpse into the vibrant culture, through flamenco dancing and a taste of tapas! We are grateful to all of the Symposium presenters, volunteers, and participants. We hope you enjoyed connecting and collaborating. See everyone in Melbourne for ISOPP 2024!
